Tourists may still call Las Vegas Sin City, but for Mark Wahlberg it’s the City of Faith.

The city’s favorite actor spoke about his faith during an appearance on NBC’s “Today” show on Ash Wednesday.

“It’s everything, it’s allowed me so many things,” the actor said, referring to his faith, while being interviewed by Savannah Guthrie on the “Today” show. “God didn’t come to save the saints, he came to save the sinners… We want to be better versions of ourselves, and through centering my faith, he has allowed me to do that.”

Wahlberg also said that the song was not well received in Hollywood. Last year he moved his family to Las Vegas.

“It’s a balance. I don’t want to impose it on anyone, but I don’t renounce my faith. That’s an even bigger sin,” said the movie star, who is a guest narrator and spokesperson for the Catholic prayer app Hallow. “You know, it’s not popular in my industry… But I have friends from all walks of life and all different types of faiths and religions, so you know, it’s important to respect them and honor them as well.”

Wahlberg appeared on the show with the ash cross on his forehead for Ash Wednesday.

The Oscar-nominated actor and his wife, Rhea Durham, have four teenage children. Apparently, the older ones have attended Roman Catholic Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas.

During his appearance on “Today,” Wahlberg talked about celebrating Lent.

“God knows what things He wants you to get rid of,” he said. “We all know those things that make us feel guilty, that don’t make us feel as good as we should. “So being able to let go of those things and focus on good habits versus bad habits… just challenging people to be better versions of themselves.”

The 51-year-old actor is a true one-man operation, with several business interests, including the family-owned Wahlburger’s burger chain and five F45 training centers in and around Las Vegas.

“Discipline has always been important to me in life. When I started to get into film and left music, I realized that I needed a lot of discipline in my life,” says Wahlberg. “And that discipline has allowed me many other things.”

“I want to share that with people,” Wahlberg said. “So, whether fasting [o] Letting go of other things and just spending more time with God in prayer or reflection, those things are important.”
