Market Prices for Poultry, Eggs, Hips, and Wings After Their Decline

At 09:01 PM on Sunday, March 26, 2023, Sameh Al-Sayed, who is the head of the Poultry Wealth Division at Giza Chamber of Commerce, informed Masrawy that the cost of a kilo of live poultry had decreased by around 10 pounds at the farm recently. Al-Sayed credited the price drop to various factors, including the increase of poultry supply after new breeding cycles, the introduction of Brazilian poultry into the markets, as well as a decrease in demand following the end of Ramadan when families finished purchasing their poultry needs.

The current market prices are as follows: live poultry costs 75 pounds per kilo (down by 10 pounds in a week), Albania costs between 140 and 160 pounds per kilo (down by 20 pounds in a week), hips cost between 80 and 85 pounds per kilo, and wings cost 50 pounds per kilo. In recent times, poultry prices in the local market have been increasing significantly, reaching 90 pounds per kilo at the farm, and the cost of dairy poultry became 180 pounds per kilo.

The market also experienced a feed shortage crisis due to the accumulation of goods in ports, along with a lack of dollars and the implementation of the documentary credits system, which led to some poultry farms destroying quantities of chicks, causing widespread controversy. Importers and manufacturers also faced a crisis of production requirements due to delays in opening documentary credits and the slow management of currency by banks, according to sources who spoke to Masrawy in the past.

According to data from the Poultry Division, Egypt produces about 1.6 billion birds annually, satisfying about 95% of the demand for poultry in the country, and the gap between production and consumption does not exceed 5%.

Sameh Al-Sayed, head of the Poultry Wealth Division at the Giza Chamber of Commerce, told Masrawy that the price of a kilo of live poultry witnessed a decline during the last week by about 10 pounds at the farm.

Al-Sayed attributed the decrease in prices to the increase in the supply of poultry after the production of new breeding cycles came out, and the pumping of Brazilian poultry in the markets, in addition to the decline in demand after families finished purchasing their poultry needs before Ramadan.

Prices of poultry and its parts in the markets

The price of a kilo of live poultry: 75 pounds (down by 10 pounds in a week).

The price of a kilo of Albania: between 140 and 160 pounds (down by 20 pounds in a week).

The price of a kilo of hips: between 80 and 85 pounds.

Price per kilo of wings: 50 pounds.

Poultry prices have witnessed significant increases in the local market during the last period, as the price per kilo jumped to 90 pounds at the farm, and the price of a kilo of dairy reached 180 pounds.

A crisis of feed shortage appeared in the market during the last period, due to the problem of the accumulation of goods in the ports with the shortage of the dollar and the application of the documentary credits system, which prompted some poultry farms to cull quantities of chicks, which sparked widespread controversy prompting the government to seek quick solutions to the crisis.

Importers and manufacturers suffered during the last period from a crisis of lack of production requirements due to the delay in opening documentary credits, and the slowness in managing currency by banks, according to importers and manufacturers who spoke earlier to Masrawy, but Dr. to nature.

Last February, the Central Bank issued a decision to stop dealing with collection documents in all import operations and to work with documentary credits instead, before returning to cancel this decision at the end of last year.

Egypt produces about 1.6 billion birds annually, and this production achieves self-sufficiency by about 95%, and the gap between production and consumption does not exceed 5%, according to data from the Poultry Division previously.

In conclusion, the decrease in poultry prices during the last week can be attributed to an increase in supply after new breeding cycles and the importation of Brazilian poultry. Additionally, the decline in demand after families finished purchasing their poultry needs before Ramadan played a role. However, the market has seen significant fluctuations before due to the crisis of feed shortage and the delay in opening documentary credits. Despite these challenges, Egypt’s poultry industry remains relatively self-sufficient, producing about 1.6 billion birds annually, with a small gap between production and consumption.
