Marlins vs Pirates: Miami Secures 4-3 Victory in 11th Inning Thriller

MIAMI — Jon Berti drove in the winning run with a single in the 11th inning and the Miami Marlins beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-3 on Saturday.

Automatic runner Joey Wendle advanced to third on Nick Fortes’ sacrifice bunt and Berti followed with his line drive to right off Angel Perdomo (1-1).

Yuli Gurriel’s sacrifice fly off Pirates closer David Bednar in the bottom of the 10th tied the score 3-3 following Ke’Bryan Hayes put the Pirates ahead in the top half with an RBI single.

Luis Arráez hit a home run and received two tickets to Miami. The Venezuelan went 1 for 3 and his batting average — the highest in the majors — dropped one point to .401.

Andrew Nardi (5-1) struck out three in a perfect 11th for the Marlins, who played in front of the second-biggest crowd of the season: 24,668.

For the Pirates, Carlos Santana 3-1, an RBI. The Venezuelan Tucupita Marcano 3-0.

For the Marlins, Cubans Jorge Soler 4-0 and Gurriel 4-2, one RBI. The Dominicans Ulises De La Cruz 5-1, one scored; and Jesus Sanchez 5-0.
