A Community’s Vision: Doc ock as a Marvel Rivals vanguard

The superhero fighting game Marvel Rivals is constantly evolving, with NetEase promising new heroes every half-season.However, some players feel that the current roster is unbalanced, with a higher number of Duelists compared to Vanguards and Strategists. this disparity has inspired one passionate fan to take matters into their own hands.

“We need more Vanguards,so I made one,” Wickedcube revealed on Reddit, introducing their concept for Doctor Octopus as a Vanguard.

Wickedcube didn’t simply outline Doc Ock’s potential gameplay; they created a detailed video explainer showcasing his unique abilities. This video highlights doc Ock’s mobility, allowing him to traverse the map using his tentacles, similar to Venom and Spider-Man’s current passive abilities.

The concept also delves into Doc Ock’s potential attacks, including “Havoc Claw” – a tentacle-based strike, “Wrecking Grip” which allows him to pick up debris and hurl it at opponents, “Cephalopod Dash” for enhanced movement speed, and “Tentacle Aegis” offering temporary shielding.

Wickedcube’s vision culminates in Doc Ock’s ultimate ability, “Wrath of the Master.” this devastating power sees Doc Ock grab nearby enemies and slam them repeatedly against the ground. This attack has the potential to be one of the most potent Vanguard ultimates in the game, perhaps rivaling Magneto’s “Meteor M”, which can pierce through support ultimates and deflect projectiles.

While this concept for Doc Ock is compelling, it’s unlikely to be instantly implemented. NetEase has recently stated their focus is on addressing current issues and balancing existing champions, rather than teasing future additions.

This leaves us with a fascinating “what if” scenario. Would Doc Ock as a Vanguard truly shake up the game’s strategic landscape? Would his unique abilities and devastating ultimate become a force to be reckoned with?

Archyde: Hi Wickedcube, thank you for joining us today. Let’s dive right in. What inspired you to create a Doctor Octopus Vanguard concept for Marvel Rivals?

Wickedcube: Thanks for having me. I’ve always loved Doc Ock as a character, and I felt his unique mobility and tentacle-based abilities would make for an exciting Vanguard addition. With the current hero roster, I thought he could fill a much-needed gap.

Archyde: Yoru concept video mencioned several unique abilities for Doc Ock. Can you tell us more about how you envisioned these working in-game?

Wickedcube: Sure! I wanted Doc Ock’s tentacles to be his main form of mobility, like Venom’s or Spider-man’s passive abilities, but taken to the next level. “Cephalopod Dash” would allow him to quickly traverse the map, while “Tentacle Aegis” would provide temporary shielding, making him more durable in fights.

Archyde: His ultimate, “Wrath of the Master,” looks incredibly powerful. How do you see it stacking up against other Vanguard ultimates like Magneto’s “Meteor M”?

Wickedcube: Thanks! I designed it to be a devastating close-range attack that could perhaps outclass others. While “Meteor M” is a powerful AoE ultimate, Doc Ock’s could be more buttons to mash, offering high damage output and crowd control for those who master it. It would certainly require some skill to use effectively.

Archyde: While this is purely speculative, if NetEase were to implement your concept, do you think Doc Ock could shake up the game’s meta?

Wickedcube: I believe so. His unique mobility, mix of offense and defense, and powerful ultimate could make him a versatile and formidable addition. Plus, who wouldn’t want to see more tentacle action in Marvel Rivals? laughs

archyde: that’s a fantastic vision. Wickedcube, thank you for sharing your Doctor Octopus Vanguard concept with us and our readers. Here’s hoping NetEase sees the potential in your creation!
