Mass Cat Rescue: Authorities Save 100 Cats in Subhuman Conditions in Añasco

The authorities rescued a hundred cats this morning after completing a search and search warrant at a residence located at kilometer 2.0 of the PR-401 highway in the Playa neighborhood, in Añasco.

According to the investigation by agent José Flores, coordinator of Law 154 for the Welfare and Protection of Animals in Mayagüez, Ericka Marie Erickson lives in the residence, who is an alleged rescuer against whom the neighbors filed complaints due to the alleged unsanitary conditions in which these cats lived and the way in which he disposed of the animals once they died.

The intervention was the result of a work plan led by Captain José Figueroa Andújar, commander of the District of Añasco, with the cooperation of the Department of Health, the Office of Emergency Management and the Municipality of Añasco, the Recording Unit of the Police, professionals from the Puerto Rico Veterinary Medical College and Shelters for the Protection of Animals in the western area.

It is alleged that the residence is in subhuman conditions with excrement even in the resident’s room.

This case is consulted with the prosecutor Andrés Fernández for the possible filing of charges.
