Massive Fire at Abbey of Flône School Forces Evacuation of Thousand Students

A major fire occurred on Wednesday morning at the school of the abbey of Flône, in the Liège entity of Amay, requiring the evacuation of a thousand students, we learned from the area of Rescue Hesbaye Meuse Condroz.

The Mosan firefighters were called to intervene on Wednesday shortly after 8:30 a.m. at the Institute of Christian Education in the Abbey of Flône. A fire broke out there on the floors, at the level of the commissary premises, for an as yet undetermined reason.

According to RTLinfo, 1,500 kindergarten and primary students and their teachers were evacuated. Some young people were also taking an exam when the fire broke out.

The red emergency plan was triggered and reinforcements from the Liège and Andenne rescue zones were required.

The national road running along the site and the Meuse was closed to traffic to allow the evacuation of a thousand pupils and their teachers who went on foot to the town hall of Amay.

“Following the start of the fire which broke out within the abbey of Flône, we inform you that the latter is under control and that no injuries are to be deplored. All students and staff are safe. We ask parents not to come on site, ”reported the Meuse-Hesbaye police zone.
