During the Belgian searches, four luxury vehicles were seized as well as at least €60,000 in cash, several prohibited weapons and vehicle trackers. Limburg’s public prosecutor, Guido Vermeiren, said at a press conference: “The mafia in Limburg is not a fiction”. The Director General of the Federal Judicial Police, Eric Snoeck, meanwhile, welcomed the results of this operation: “The Federal Judicial Police is mobilized, more than ever, throughout the territory against all forms of organized crime. Significant results have been obtained and we will continue our action in this direction”.

Searches and arrests also took place in Germany where more than 1,000 police officers were involved. “Hundreds of German police intervened in five regions of the pays”, confirmed the Munich public prosecutor’s office. Searches and arrests also took place in Spain, Portugal, France, Romania and Slovenia. These operations are not limited to European terrain. The network of suspects would extend to Argentina, Brazil, Panama and Australia.

This large-scale operation, launched by Belgium, was made possible thanks to the collaboration with several European countries as well as Eurojust and Europol.
