2023-08-26 10:52:30

A police operation is underway at the Gare du Midi and the surrounding area. The local authorities of Saint Gilles and Anderlecht, on the initiative of the operation, confirmed the information given this morning by the Le Soir newspaper. Thirty people have already been arrested. These are mainly petty thefts or people residing illegally. A person was also arrested because he was reported to have escaped. The action, which began Saturday at 10:00 a.m., will continue until the evening. There will be no similar large-scale action on Sunday, but local police will continue to patrol the area around the station with increased attention as usual.

Police officers from Saint Gilles, reinforced by teams from Brussels Capital-Ixelles and the federal police, deployed in the station and outside the building. This operation follows the announcement on Friday of a series of measures to improve security. The first arrests have taken place.

Our teams on the spot observe an impressive system, a large number of police officers, SNCB agents but also social workers such as those of the Foreigners Office. Controls are carried out in all directions and concern delinquency, control of illegal stays, etc.
