Materazzi tells what he really said to Zidane before 2006 headbutt

Marco Materazzi returns in an interview to his altercation with Zinedine Zidane during the 2006 World Cup. The Italian defender confirms again having made insulting remarks.

The sworn enemy of the French supporters talks about it in all relaxation. In interview posted on April 7 on the YouTube channel IFTVMarco Materazzi speaks again about his insulting remarks which prompted Zinédine Zidane to headbutt him in the chest in the middle of the 2006 World Cup final lost on penalties by the France team against Italy.

“My trash-talking was nothing”

Speaking to his interlocutors, the former Italian defender first related his remarks: “You live in the United States, don’t you? You know the NBA, trash-talking… My trash-talking, this n was nothing compared to real trash-talking”. Then he clearly tells what happened on the lawn of the Olympiastadion in Berlin in the 107th minute. “He offered me his jersey. I said: ‘No, I prefer your sister'”.

The Italian world champion, who had already revealed in the past what he had said to the former playmaker of the Blues, then says that he felt “nothing” at the time of the headbutt, although the images of the time show him wincing in pain and staying on the ground for a long time. “I didn’t expect it, it was crazy,” he adds. Zinédine Zidane had received a direct red card a few minutes after this loss of composure.

Now aged 49, Marco Materazzi ended his professional career in 2011 at Inter before allowing himself a few freelance games in India during 2014. He is now co-owner of padel facilities in Perugia.
