Matijs Van Strijthem became omnium world champion in Luoyang, China, on Saturday. This is the second medal, both gold, for the Belgian delegation.

On this 4th and penultimate day of the junior track cycling world championships, Matijs Van Strijthem collected 112 points after the four events (scratch, tempo race, elimination race, and points race).

The 18-year-old rider from Kruibeke finished one point ahead of American Ashlin Barry (111). Australian Alexander Hewes took 3rd place with 102 points.

Also in the junior category on Saturday, Falke Kerkhof took 7th place in the points race. Gold went to the British Imogen Wolff (13 points) ahead of the Spanish Izaro Etxarri Aranburu (12 points) and the German Judith Friederike Rottmann (11 points).

On Friday, Nicolas Aernouts from Hérin, 18, became world champion in the points race.
