Hollywood has a new epic in the works. Matt Damon is set to star in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film adaptation of Homer’s timeless classic, The Odyssey. Universal Pictures, who partnered with Nolan on the recent blockbuster Oppenheimer, revealed the news alongside a first-look image of Damon in character.
this star-studded project boasts a cast that reads like a who’s who of Hollywood. Universal officially announced the project shortly before Christmas, describing it as a “mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology.” Nolan’s proven ability to craft visually stunning and thought-provoking films, combined with the grandeur of The Odyssey’s source material, promises an unusual cinematic experience.
Homer’s epic poem recounts the perilous 10-year journey of Odysseus as he strives to return home to Ithaca after the trojan War. along the way, he encounters numerous obstacles, from the wrath of the gods to mythical creatures, testing his strength, cunning, and resilience.Meanwhile, his wife, Penelope, remains steadfast in her loyalty, fending off suitors who seek to usurp Odysseus’s throne.
For Nolan, this marks his third collaboration with Damon, following thier work on Oppenheimer and Interstellar.Damon’s recent Oscar-winning performance in Oppenheimer further solidifies his place among Hollywood’s leading actors.
Nolan’s The Odyssey is slated for release on July 17, 2026. Production is expected to commence later this month.
