Mattel Brick Shop Announces 1:1-Scale Original Xbox Set With 3 Games

Mattel has unveiled a 1:1-scale, 3,509-piece original Xbox building set through its Mattel Brick Shop brand to mark the console’s 25th anniversary. Priced at $329.99 to $330 and available for preorder now, the interactive toy kit includes a buildable Duke controller, game dioramas, and working lights and sounds.

Retro gaming nostalgia is getting a heavy-duty, tactile upgrade. In a celebration of the original Xbox platform’s 25th anniversary, Mattel is rolling out a massive building brick set that recreates the iconic console at a true-to-life 1:1 scale, according to reporting across the tech and gaming press.

Inside the 3,509-Piece Mattel Brick Shop Original Xbox Set

The ambitious kit spans 3,509 pieces and comes packed with interactive features that separate it from standard display-only collectibles. The set includes a buildable 1:1-scale Duke controller alongside the console chassis itself. While building brick enthusiasts have seen previous modular treatments for classic hardware like the NES and Atari 2600, this release marks the first major building set dedicated to Microsoft’s debut gaming console, though one outlet playfully suggests building it while sitting on an Xbox cushion from IKEA.

Beyond the console build, the package features three distinct, swappable dioramas referencing classic titles from the system’s library: Halo: Combat Evolved, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, and Psychonauts. The inclusion of Psychonauts carries a touch of irony, given that developer Double Fine only recently separated from Xbox ownership. These small modules, along with their associated figurines, can be removed and displayed independently from the main console build.

Lights, Sounds, and Interactive Controller Mechanics

The set relies on mechanical and electronic integration to mimic the original hardware experience. Mattel notes that

“as builders press the controller’s buttons, hidden scenes from the three games come to life with illuminated lighting effects accompanied by its corresponding in-game soundtrack.”

The chunky controller might feel even more unwieldy in brick form than it did in players’ hands two decades ago, but pressing its buttons successfully triggers lighting effects across the attached dioramas while playing music from the selected game.

Builders who experiment with the hardware can also uncover a secret input. A hidden button combination on the brick controller sets off an exclusive lighting sequence detailed in press materials. To populate the scenes, the set ships with 12 NanoWorld figures total: eight from Halo, two from Morrowind, and two from Psychonauts.

Pricing, Preorders, and Retail Availability

Owning a piece of brick-built gaming history requires a significant investment. The set will run you $330, which positions it at a higher price point than the original console or the modern Xbox Series S cost at their respective launches. Retailers list the price slightly variably, with preorders open at a couple of different retailers for $329.99.

Shoppers can secure preorders right now across multiple storefronts. Mattel Creations, Amazon, and Best Buy are handling early orders for the kit. While Mattel has not issued an official standalone release date for the product, Amazon listings point toward a shipping window of October 1, giving collectors a concrete target for when the massive brick box will finally land on doorsteps.
