German soccer legend Lothar Matthaus did not hesitate to criticize Hans-Dieter Flick’s choices for Germany’s national team squad in the upcoming international friendly matches.
The German national team will play against Peru on the 25th of this month, and then against Belgium 3 days later.
Matthews said in press statements: “We must ask Flick what he was thinking when choosing this list.”
Matthews denounced the exclusion of a number of the main pillars, such as Niklas Soleil, Leroy Sanneh and Thomas Mueller, saying: “Do these players need rest? Or are you the one who wants to rest?”
He added, “There are still 12 matches until the start of the European Championship 2024, but the most important players are not present, and until now you cannot know who will be key in the matches.”
Matthews also expressed his surprise at Flick’s selection in the list of some non-key players in their teams, such as Joshua Wagnoman from Stuttgart and Felix Nmecha from Wolfsburg.
