The Mattress Firm has reached a $4.9 million settlement to settle a class action lawsuit alleging that Bed Tech box springs are defective and dangerous.

Settlement benefits consumers who purchased an HR Platform bed frame sold under the Bed Tech brand with model numbers HR33, HR33XL, HR46, HR50, HR60 or HR66 between April 8, 2015 and April 8, 2021 .

Plaintiffs in the Mattress Firm class action claim that Bed Tech bed frames are prone to collapse, causing serious injury or even death. The manufacturer Global Home Imports withdrew from the market the products in March 2021 after 100 reports of crash frames.

Bed Tech is a brand of mattresses and box springs sold at various retailers, including Mattress Firm.

The Mattress Firm and Global Home Imports have not admitted to any wrongdoing, but have agreed to a $4.9 million class action settlement to resolve allegations of defective products.

Under the terms of the Mattress Firm class action settlement, class members may receive either a cash payment or a gift card.

Cash rebates are available to consumers with proof of purchase who return their box spring to a Mattress Firm store within two years. Rebates will range from $73.98 for twin XL box springs to $115.68 for California king box springs.

Class Members who do not return their box spring may receive a $125 Bed Tech Gift Card.

Payment and gift card amounts may be reduced proportionately if the number of claims exceeds the settlement fund of $4.9 million.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is May 4, 2023.

The settlement’s final approval hearing is scheduled for July 19, 2023.

To receive settlement benefits, Class Members must submit a valid Claim Form by August 4, 2023.
