Maurer/Voglauer: Top positions in the SPÖ are now occupied almost exclusively by men

The party and club chairs are male, soon all 9 state organizations of the SPÖ will be led by men

Vienna (OTS) “We congratulate Messrs. Babler, Kucher and Seltenheim as well as Ms. Breinteneder on their new tasks in top positions at the SPÖ. But what immediately catches the eye is the fact that almost all leadership positions in the SPÖ are now occupied exclusively by men. Eight out of nine state chairmen of the SPÖ are currently men, and soon all nine federal states will be firmly in male hands. The party and club chairs are also male. From a feminist point of view, this is extremely unfortunate, because politics for women is only made where women also have a say and take on responsibility in the first place. This is not the case with the SPÖ. The former feminist social democracy, which campaigned for women’s rights in the past, is no longer recognizable in this way,” say Sigi Maurer, Chairwoman of the Greens and Olga Voglauer, Secretary General of the Greens.

“Now that the personnel agendas have finally been settled, the SPÖ should also return to substantive politics. It has been about the SPÖ for long enough, now the focus must be on the future of our country again,” say Maurer and Voglauer in unison and add: “The SPÖ must end its blockade of important climate protection and transparency laws and return to the negotiating table”.
