Max Verstappen “Expectations for Mercedes F1’s breakthrough in the second half”[F1-Gate.com]

Red Bull Racing F1 world champion Max Verstappen says he would be “very happy” if the Mercedes F1 team could maintain improved performance after the summer break.

Max Verstappen claimed his eighth win of 2022 at the F1 Hungarian Grand Prix, 80 points behind Charles Leclerc in the Drivers’ Championship. Leclerc finished the race in 6th place due to a strategic mistake by Ferrari.

Ferrari were Red Bull’s closest rivals as the Mercedes F1 team struggled to tame the W13 amid the porpoise problems that severely affected it early in the season.

But the Mercedes F1 team’s Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have fought back in recent races, with the duo taking double podiums with two consecutive second and third place finishes in France and Hungary. .

Mercedes are now just 30 points behind Ferrari’s 334 points in the Constructors’ Championship, with Red Bull 431 ahead of Ferrari by 90 points.

Max Verstappen believes Mercedes’ improved performance will help Red Bull Racing as they seek to secure a double championship for the first time since 2013.

“It’s good that they (Mercedes) are competitive because they can take more points from Ferrari. I’m very happy with what they’re doing.” Max Verstappen told RacingNews365.

Mercedes F1 remains the only team to have scored points in every race in 2022 after suffering with its car, with at least one in nine different Grands Prix compared to Red Bull’s 12 and Ferrari’s 8. We’re on the podium.

The Mercedes W13 still lacks the sheer pace of the Red Bull RB18 driven by Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez and the F1-75 driven by Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jr., but Mercedes is operationally ahead. It’s more sophisticated and also enjoys bulletproof reliability. This is something Ferrari does not have.
