Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing) has retired from the 2022 F1 Round 3 Australian Grand Prix final due to technical trouble.
Max Verstappen, who started from the 2nd grid, ran almost the entire race in 2nd place after Charles Leclerc (Scuderia Ferrari). However, on lap 39, a technical problem occurred and he was forced to stop the RB18 beside the truck.
Max Verstappen’s second retirement this season. Charles Leclerc has won his second win of the season. Sergio Perez finished second and George Russell took third on the podium for the first time after moving to Mercedes.
Disappointed after the race, Max Verstappen commented, “It’s the worst. I don’t know what to do now, but we have a lot to do.”
“I still don’t know what’s wrong. I’ll get the car back soon and then look into it. But I didn’t have a chance and today wasn’t a good day overall. The tire compound was also very worn, so I had to manage the tires to finish the race. “
“Nevertheless, I thought I could get an easy second place. I knew I couldn’t attack Charles, so it didn’t make sense to put pressure on him, but in the end I couldn’t even finish. It ’s very frustrating and unacceptable. ”
Just before the start of the race, Red Bull Racing’s mechanics were working on Max Verstappen’s RB18, so the breakdown wasn’t entirely out of the ordinary.
“I knew there was a problem,” said Max Verstappen.
“It was already a question mark if we could finish the race, but if we’re competing for the title, this shouldn’t happen.”
Max Verstappen’s second retirement this season has hit hope for the title, but Verstappen says he doesn’t want to think about it yet.
“It’s much more important to finish the race. I’ve retired twice in three races, so I already have a lot of behind.”
