Wheelchair tennis player Maximilian Taucher is the youngest participant to reach the semi-finals in singles and doubles at the US Open!

The ÖTV wheelchair tennis player Maximilian Taucher qualified as one of the 8 best juniors for the Grand Slam tournament in Flushing Meadows and, as in the first edition last year, played his way to the semi-finals in the singles and doubles competition.

The 15-year-old from Hohenems from the ENJO Vorarlberg wheelchair club went into the tournament with the goal of topping last year’s result by reaching the final. Unfortunately, the luck of the draw in the singles didn’t work out well for Maxi. After a two-set opening win against the Australian Benjamin Wenzel, the 18-year-old Brit, Dahnon Ward, was waiting in round 2. “Ward is very successful on the men’s tour and has already won ITF tournaments. Maxi had a chance to make it 4:4 in the second set, but the bottom line is that Ward was in a class of his own,” said father Alex Taucher Maxi’s opponent, who ultimately won the US Open title in singles and doubles without losing a set. In doubles, Maximilian played with the Italian Francesco Felici. In the duel against the American pairing Majetic / Cooper, they were only two points short of reaching the final with a score of 6:7, 6:3, 8:10.

“Even though I wasn’t able to achieve my goal of reaching the final, I am still very proud of my achievement, especially since I was the youngest participant in the tournament again this year. This experience, the special impressions and the valuable encounters can Nobody can take it from me anymore. A very special thank you goes to my coach, who supported me perfectly throughout the week, as well as to my sponsors, without whom I would never have had this great opportunity,” Maxi said positively after the tournament.

“Maxi can be really proud of his achievements and I am also very satisfied. We will continue to work hard and focused together to be able to serve at the US Open next year,” said coach Maximilian Forer.
