EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (March 16, 2025) – SIUE golf is set to compete in Missouri State’s Twin Oaks Intercollegiate on monday, March 17, and Tuesday, March 18, 2025, seeking to add another chapter to their history at this tournament.

A History of Success at Twin Oaks

The Cougars have a strong track record at the Twin Oaks Country Club, having “captured team titles at Twin Oaks twice previously.” This history fuels their ambition as they return to the course.

Adding to their legacy, SIUE golfers have also achieved individual success, with “two golfers claim[ing] Individual Medalist honors at Missouri State tournaments.” The team aims to replicate past achievements while facing a competitive field.

The 2025 field

This year’s Twin Oaks Intercollegiate features a diverse lineup of teams. “SIUE is part of a 2025 field which includes host Missouri State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Bradley, eastern Illinois, Evangel, Lindenwood, Omaha, northern Iowa, Southern Indiana, Southern Utah and Western Illinois.” The Cougars will need to bring their best game to compete against this strong competition.

coach Carter: The players are definitely aware of our past successes. Knowing we’ve captured team titles and had individual medalists here before fuels our confidence. It serves as a reminder that we can compete and win at Twin Oaks, setting a high standard for our performance.

Navigating the Competitive 2025 Field

Archyde: The 2025 Twin Oaks Intercollegiate boasts a strong field,including Missouri State and several other formidable teams.What challenges do you anticipate, and how is SIUE preparing to meet them?

Coach Carter: The competition is fierce, there’s no doubt whatsoever. We’ve emphasized strategic course management and mental fortitude during practices. Twin Oaks is a challenging course; it plays 6,760 yards and is a par 71, so we need to be precise. We’re focusing on playing smart, understanding the course, and minimizing mistakes.

Archyde: With the course playing at 6,760 yards and a par of 71, what parts of Twin Oaks Country Club are you focusing on with your players?

Coach Carter: Precision is key. The course demands accurate tee shots to set up favorable approach shots. The greens are also challenging, rewarding players who can consistently hit their targets and manage their short game effectively. We’ve been spending extra time on putting and short game drills to prepare.

Tournament Format and Endurance

archyde: The 54-hole format, with 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday, tests endurance. How are you ensuring your team is physically and mentally prepared for the demanding schedule?

Coach Carter: Endurance is crucial. We’ve incorporated longer practice sessions and simulated tournament rounds to build stamina. Mental preparation is equally crucial; we work on visualization techniques and staying focused throughout the prolonged competition.Staying hydrated and managing energy levels will be critical.

SIUE Golf’s Team Lineup

Archyde: All nine SIUE golfers will be participating this week. How does this depth benefit the team, and can you highlight any players to watch?

Coach Carter: Having all nine golfers participating allows us flexibility and provides internal competition, which pushes everyone to perform their best. Brady Kaufmann, Alex Eickhoff, and Will Simpson are all seasoned competitors who bring a wealth of experience to the course. But honestly, everyone on the roster is capable of a strong performance. we’re looking for consistency across the board. The Indy players (Preston Bily, Hayden Moore, Parker Bruening and Thomas hereau) also bring a unique outlook.

Archyde: what are your primary goals for SIUE Golf at the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate?

Coach Carter: First and foremost, to compete with heart and determination. We aim to post consistent scores across all rounds and improve our overall team performance. Of course, we’re striving for a top finish, ideally contending for the team title, but our main focus is on executing our game plan and maximizing our potential.

Archyde: what’s one piece of advice you’d give to aspiring young golfers looking to compete at this level?

Coach Carter: never stop learning and practicing. Hone your fundamentals, develop a strong mental game, and most importantly, enjoy the process. Golf is a challenging sport, but the rewards of dedication and perseverance are immeasurable.
