Ahmedabad – All-rounder Glenn Maxwell’s injury has dealt a blow to Australia, who are advancing with hopes of reaching the semi-finals in the World Cup. The team management informed that Maxwell suffered a head injury after tripping while returning from the golf court. Team sources also stated that Maxwell is unlikely to play in the match against England in Ahmedabad on Monday.

The accident occurred while trying to jump into a small vehicle (golf cart) to reach the team bus from the golf court. Maxwell’s head hit the ground. Australian coach Andrew Macdonald said that the player will not be able to play in the match against England as per the concussion protocol. But the coach clarified that there will be no change in the squad and Maxwell will be rested for six to eight days as per the protocol.

The Aussies won by 309 runs thanks to the performance of Maxwell who scored the fastest century in the match against the Netherlands. Maxwell scored a 40-ball century in the match and also achieved a new record. In Maxwell’s absence, either Cameron Green or Marcus Stoinis will make the final XI.

The Aussies are on a comeback trail after losing their first two matches of the tournament. Australia has won the last four matches and is currently fourth in the points table. They need to perform well in the remaining matches to secure the semis. After England, Australia’s opponent is Afghanistan on November 7.
