Maybe the mink breeders are overplaying their cards?

This is a discussion post. The post is an expression of the writer’s own position.

Mink breeders must receive the compensation they are entitled to.

This statement is repeated over and over again in almost all statements, from Jacob Jensen, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries, to Nordjyske’s leaders and a sea of other laymen’s statements.

However, the sentence is meaningless as long as no one will define exactly what these mink breeders are entitled to in compensation.

It seems that to some extent it is the mink breeders themselves who have been allowed to define what they are entitled to receive in compensation.

It is a fine extension of the very benevolent, very positive special treatment mink breeders have received in Denmark for far too long.

Fictional mink

One must get the impression that Danish mink breeding has been a supporting pillar of the Danish agricultural economy and has set a world record for friendly animal cruelty. Nowhere in the world have mink been treated as well as in Denmark, and nowhere have mink breeders been treated as well by the state as in Denmark.

I wish the Danish primary school was treated as well as the mink breeders, but I must understand that mink is a more important source of wealth in this country than children.

Maybe the mink breeders are overplaying their cards?

Substitution for fictitious mink, what a claim! Fictitious mink can be those that you have never had or will get in the future, for which compensation must also be paid.

Brilliant!

How many mink would I not be able to produce in the next ten years?

The Bible on its side

And then there is the conflict with environmental approvals.

My farm is approved for a certain number of mink. Well, who’s to say that I wouldn’t expand my farm in the coming years following the well-known rule that mink breeders have referred to: after seven lean years come seven fat years! Mink breeders have the Bible on their side.

Unfortunately, for the mink breeders, environmental approval is also about the mink they have already had too many of on their farm over time. That is, in relation to the approval.

I know that the authorities do not understand mink breeding according to the mink breeders, and I know that too many mink have had a fantastic time on the Danish mink farms, which have a world record for animal welfare.

As so many other countries have banned mink breeding due to the animals’ miserable conditions, it has become easier to get a world record. But Danish mink breeding is world class.

Also in terms of price.

Remember, it’s all about slaughtering the minks and removing the precious fur from them. It is also reported that the compensation for the mink breeders is of course calculated according to the highest price for skins on the market. That was also just missing.

Shouldn’t Danish mink breeding be royally rewarded for its unique contribution to the Danish economy and amply compensated for the disgraceful, brutal treatment the profession was exposed to in a pandemic crisis for the world community, where human lives were at stake on a scale no one had any idea about?

After all, humans don’t wear fur – except as fashionable clothing, but mink have precious fur.

And 30 billion must now be paid for it.

But what is a human life worth?
