Mayor on closure: – I think the race is over

Region North Jutland sent a proposal for budget savings for consultation on Tuesday. One of the proposals is to close the injury clinic in Farsø.

According to Region North Jutland, the vast majority of visits to the injury clinic in Farsø concern minor injuries such as sprains and small tears, and on average there are nine visits a day to the clinic.

Asger Andersen (S) is chairman of the Health Committee in Vesthimmerland Municipality, and he is sad that the injury clinic in Farsø may have to close. But he also points out that there have been problems with patients not being referred to the accident clinic in Farsø when they call the emergency room.

He is not enthusiastic about the closure plan:

– We in Vesthimmerland are of course sad about that, but we probably also have to recognize that the injury clinic’s area of operation is so narrow that it has been difficult to cover all citizens. But what has particularly been a problem is that when citizens call the emergency room, they are not referred to Farsø – for them the clinic was non-existent, according to Asger Andersen.

– I am also sorry for the entire healthcare system in North Jutland, because when you go to the emergency room in Aalborg, there is a queue of many hours. After all, it is often half the night when citizens have to wait. It could be remedied if the clinic in Farsø was maintained, says Asger Andersen.

– A big loss and a deterioration of service

The chairman of the support association for the hospital in Farsø, Lars Andresen, is also sad about the planned closure of the injury clinic in Farsø.

– We are of course sorry about this on behalf of the clinic and the staff, but also for the citizens who now lose that opportunity.

Lars Andresen is aware that the injury clinic in Farsø is not used by many people, and that the types of injuries the clinic can treat are limited.

– Then we just hope that the revenue the region receives from the closure will be used to reduce the waiting time at the emergency room in Aalborg, he says.

– We get a lot of inquiries from local citizens who are dissatisfied with the waiting time at the emergency room in Aalborg, says Lars Andresen.

He knows of examples where citizens had to wait well over six hours at the emergency room in Aalborg.

– I don’t think that’s fair, he says.

– Something was coming

At the mayor’s office in Vesthimmerland Municipality, a regretful Per Bach Laursen has read the region’s savings plan. But he is still not completely surprised.

– I am of course very sorry that this is going to happen. We got an indication before Christmas that something was coming, but it wasn’t the casualty clinic we were preparing to close, says Per Bach Laursen, who has the feeling that – despite the consultation period, which runs until 5 March – that the race has been run for the injury clinic.

– I can understand that Region North Jutland must make ends meet, but that does not change the fact that this is a great loss and a deterioration of service for the citizens of Vesthimmerland.

Hobro is also affected

In the neighboring municipality of Mariagerfjord, they are also upset at the prospect of the minor injury clinic in Hobro being closed.

– It is boring every time we are about to lose something. And of course we are really sad if it is in Hobro, says mayor Mogens Jespersen (V) from Mariagerfjord Municipality.

– It is of course legal for the region – which lacks money – to look at where they can find it. Then we have to see if we can find some good arguments for them not to tinker with it in Hobro, says the mayor.
