after a meeting in the Casa de Nariño between President Gustavo Petro and the mayors from Bogotá, Claudia López; Medellin, Daniel Quintero; Cali, Jorge Ivan Ospina; Cartagena, William Dau and Barranquilla, Jaime Pumarejo several were the conclusions that were exposed, after the local leaders asked the Colombian head of state for help to combat crime that directly affects ordinary citizens.

In his statement, government spokesman Alfonso Prada indicated that although the mayors support the process to achieve total peace, it is also necessary to create a political strategy for human security, therefore, there will not only be articulation with the project filed today by the Ministry of Justice for Humanize and modernize the Penitentiary and Prison Systembut also, two more projects will be taken into account: one proposed by Bogotá and another by Asocapitales to combat crime.
The one who also spoke about these new projects was the mayoress of Bogotá, Claudia López, who assured that the thief, the raponero and the extortionist who generates fear in the citizens must be combated. For this reason, López made it clear that one of the joint projects with Asocapitales proposes joint investment in security and justice infrastructure. She too, she assured that transitional detention centers are needed for those who commit minor crimes which are also accompanied by efficient justice.
On the other hand, the mayoress confirmed that they reiterated to the president to humanize the prisons, but the cities also need more strength than by monitoring the streets, capturing criminals and applying the law.
Finally, there will be a monitoring table led by the Ministry of Justice to establish common objectives and manage to combat scourges such as theft and homicide.
