Mazda confirmed late last year that a new full-size SUV with three rows of seats called the CX-90 will arrive in 2023.
The full reveal will be on January 31, but Mazda has been dedicated to dropping little bits of information about the new CX-90 ahead of its big reveal.
The 2024 CX-90 will be powered by a new 3.3-liter turbocharged inline-six engine.
This will make 340 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque and the engine is designed for the brand’s larger platforms. It will deliver its power to the road via a rear-biased all-wheel-drive system.
It is believed that Mazda has decided to change the six-speed automatic transmission that it has used in almost all of its cars for this generation of products, so the new engine is expected to come mated to a new transmission with more than six gears.
The engine has been branded as the e-Skyactiv Turbo engine, with the “e-” designation due to a new mild-hybrid system that will be paired with the inline-six engine.
According to Mazda, the mild hybrid configuration will help increase efficiency without affecting the performance of the car.
It also helps smooth out the powertrain and makes features like auto engine start and stop feel much smoother.
Mazda also noted that kinematic stance control, a feature that is essentially a brake-actuated torque vectoring system first launched on the 2022 Miata, will also be standard on the CX-90.
