President of Mazembe since July 2020, Malta Forrest could leave the management of Mazembe later this year or in the near future, warned his father George Forrest.

Eldest son of Belgian businessman George Forrest, Malta Forrest is part of the closed circle of TPM strongmen. Since taking office, in place of his brother, he has participated in several club successes including the Champions League won in 2015 and two Confederation Cups in 2017 and 2018. In 2020 during the structuring of the club in omnisports, Mr. Forrest had been elected new president of the football section of Mazembe, after seven years as vice-president.

If since then the club has not experienced great successes, the presence of the general manager of Malta Forrest International within the TPM ecosystem remains essential. For how much longer ?

” Take his responsibilities “

In the middle of an election year, the DRC could experience turbulent months. Moïse Katumbi, “Chairman” of the club declared himself a candidate for the next presidential election scheduled for December. The presence and support of the Forrest family in Mazembe “is not political”, more “It’s an old family story” said George Forrest, the father of Mr. Malta, during an interview with RFI.

“My father was already there when it was still Englebert. We were there when Moïse Katumbi took over the club and developed it very strongly, we stayed. Then it was my other son who left and I put on Malta,” explained the author of his memoirs “A century of dreams” (Cherche Midi editions). “It’s part of the story. This is not a political issue or political support. If it becomes one of the political causes and it creates problems for everyone, it is certain that he will take his responsibilities”, Mr. Forrest said.

The Forrest patriarch says Mr Malta “will quit his job” if those close to him believe that his rapprochement with Moïse Katumbi “must create problems, it is a certain fact that he will take his responsibilities” he assured, confirming that “business is business” even if Mr. Katumbi “stay a friend” of the Forrests.

“We don’t want to play politics. Malta will necessarily withdraw (if that happens). It is not because Moïse Katumbi is a friend. Friendship is one thing and politics is another. Let’s not mix up objectives and subjects”.
