The mayoral election in Akune City, Kagoshima Prefecture was announced on the 11th due to the expiration of the term of office, and four people, including the current and former posts, ran for mayor.

Candidates for the Akune mayoral election are, in order of notification, newcomer and former city councilor Yukihito Nakamen, former and former city councilor Shinichi Takehara, newcomer and former city councilor Junichi Shiraishi, aiming for a fourth term. Yoshimasa Nishihira, the incumbent, is one of four independents.

The election for mayor of Akune has been one-on-one between the incumbent and the former incumbent three times in the past. Points of contention include the evaluation of the current municipal administration in its third term, 12 years, and measures to deal with the declining birthrate and aging population.

Voting day is the 18th of this month, and the votes will be counted on the same day.
