KV Mechelen announced that one of its players, Rick van Drongelen was involved in a fatal road accident on Wednesday morning. While the Dutch defender was taken to hospital with minor injuries, the driver of the other vehicle involved died.
In a press release, the sports director of the Mechelen club, Tom Caluwé reacted: “We would like to express our condolences to the family of the victim”, begins the press release, “We learned that the accident had taken place this Wednesday morning, when Rick was on his way to training. He was taken to hospital but does not appear to have major injuries. Further tests will provide more certainty.”
The circumstances of the accident are not yet known. The Dutch police have opened an investigation, we can still read in the press release from the Mechelen club.
