MWC 2024: MediaTek Demonstrates Next Generation Satellite Broadband, Generative AI for Video and 6G Ambient Computing

At MWC 2024, MediaTek will have several demonstrations of a new generation of technologies, highlighted by NTN, 5G RedCap and 5G CPE products, as well as partnerships for Dimensity Auto, as well as innovative examples of video broadcasting with real-time generative AI and 6G ambient computing. Devices powered by MediaTek technology from some of the world’s most important brands will also be showcased.
“We continue to expand our leadership in several vital product categories, and MWC provides us with a great opportunity to demonstrate our growth by highlighting our latest developments in generative edge AI, satellite broadband, 5G RedCap and CPE,” said Joe Chen, President of MediaTek. “We are also laying the foundation for the 6G era through innovations in emerging categories like ambient computing.”

Video broadcasting with real-time generative AI powered by MediaTek’s 7th generation AI processor

At MWC 2024, MediaTek introduces the first on-device generative AI video broadcast entirely powered by its cutting-edge 5G mobile processor, the Dimensity 9300. This leading smartphone chip incorporates the world’s first hardware-based generative AI engine, with Secure, personalized AI, capable of reducing bandwidth, LoRA Fusion, and 8x faster generative AI performance compared to MediaTek’s previous generation AI processor.

Expansion of partnerships in the automotive industry

Dimensity Auto will promote safety features through virtualized operating systems within vehicles, as demonstrated through the use of OpenSynergy Hypervisor technology. Additionally, MediaTek and ACCESS Twine4Car are working together to develop interactive and multi-screen entertainment services. At the core of these partnerships, Dimensity Auto’s intelligent cockpit and infotainment platforms provide highly capable processing that can handle multiple operating systems, multiple sources of wireless connectivity, simultaneous multiple video playbacks, and even advanced 3D graphics and generative artificial intelligence for the driver and passengers of the vehicle.

The world’s first RedCap RFSoC platform for IoT and 5G wearables

The newly announced MediaTek T300 platform will make it easier for IoT designers to transition to 5G-NR in applications that require ultra-efficient connectivity and long battery life, such as wearables, lightweight augmented reality devices, and always-connected IoT modules. At MWC 2024, MediaTek will demonstrate how it can achieve ultra-low latency (URLLC) for AR and IIoT applications, serving critical traffic flows with precise scheduling to significantly and reliably reduce transmission latency compared to previous generation connectivity. The low-power demonstration showcases the performance and capability of MediaTek’s new RedCap RFSoC using the Keysight UXM5G wireless test platform.

Exclusive new 5G CPE technologies that improve performance and user experiences
MediaTek demonstrates its latest features for 5G CPE devices powered by its T830 platform, including improvements in uplink performance using three transmit antennas (3TX) applicable in 5G NR band combinations; and Low-Latency, Low-Loss, and Scalable Throughput (L4S), which significantly reduce network delays and improve user experience compared to legacy designs. The demonstration is carried out in collaboration with the Anritsu MT8000A test station.

The world’s first 5G advanced satellite broadband and the foundation for the pre-6G NTN user experience

Following the successful launch of the MediaTek MT6825 in 2023, the company continues to lead satellite communications technology with a live demonstration of its next-generation 5G advanced NR-NTN satellite test chip. It will deliver data performance of over 100 Mbps with advanced Ku-band LEO satellite support for automotive and many other terminals, in collaboration with Rohde & Schwarz, using the Victor SMW200A signal generator, R&S FSW signal analyzer and the gNB ITRI NR NTN test. Additionally, the world’s first pre-6G satellite broadband user experience demonstration will also be showcased with a realistic emulation of a LEO satellite flyby.

6G Ambient Computing

6G Ambient Computing Delivers Seamless Virtual Private Personal Networks with Aggregate Acceleration
A MediaTek will provide an example of the future of personal networks through ambient computing and connectivity convergence. As home IoT devices continue to grow, managing them outside of the home is often done through third-party servers and services. A private (virtual) environmental network utilizing 5G devices and home routers would mitigate the need for complicated configurations such as port forwarding and secure tunneling, providing an optimized experience with greater privacy, more reliable and customizable service, and faster response. This results in simpler home IoT management tasks, networked storage transmission, and improved aggregate computing, whether processing from a single device or distributed across multiple devices simultaneously.
