MediaTek announces Filogic 860 and 360 chipsets with Wi-Fi 7 for affordable devices

During the second day of the Executive Summit 2023, MediaTek presented its new connectivity solutions. The company announced the Filogic 860 and Filogic 360 chipsets, with a focus on affordable devices.

Main features

The Filogic 860’s main features are the mix of a dual-band Wi-Fi access point and an advanced network processor. In practice, this combination is mainly used for corporate access points, service provider Ethernet gateways, and mesh nodes. It can also be applied to retail and IoT router.

This model comes equipped with an Arm Cortex-A73 CPU with three cores. The processor provides hardware acceleration support for advanced encapsulation and security features. Furthermore, the speed is capable of reaching 7.2 Gbps.

The Filogic 360 consists of an autonomous single-chip solution, with Wi-Fi 7 2×2 and Bluetooth 5.4 in the same component. The intention is for the component to be used in various product categories, such as smartphones, computers, notebooks, decoders and streaming devices.

Wireless internet speed can reach 2.9 Gbps in triple band. There is also compatibility with a channel bandwidth of 160 MHz. Bluetooth comes with support for two cores, designed for games and other applications. The intention is for both technologies to operate in the 2.4 GHz band without any interference.

Availability

The new MediaTek Filogic 860 and Filogic 360 chips have started to be manufactured for customers and are expected to be in mass production in mid-2024.
