Ferenci calls for a package of measures for the hospital area

Vienna (OTS) – The Vienna Medical Association is reacting with skepticism to the government’s announcements regarding health care reform. “Hundred cash registers more will not solve the staff flight from the hospitals. The hundredth commitment to expanding primary care will not eliminate the acute shortage of care and the blocked beds in hospitals. And digital offers in psychosocial care will not bring a specialist back to the hospital. In short: A health care reform that forgets about the hospitals does not deserve this name,” commented Stefan Ferenci, Executive Vice President and Chairman of the Curia, employed doctors of the Vienna Medical Association, on the plans of the federal government that were rumored in the media today, Saturday. It is therefore essential to make more money available for the hospital system as part of the 15a negotiations.

In this context, the Vienna Medical Association is renewing its call for a return and residence bonus for all healthcare professions and for salaries in line with the market in order to remain competitive in a comparison with the federal states. “There is an urgent need for a comprehensive package of measures for the hospital sector. The pressure from employees in Vienna’s hospitals is increasing. Desperate colleagues contact us and tell us that things cannot go on like this, that the public hospitals are on the verge of collapse. If those responsible in politics don’t finally recognize the emergency and respond to the demands of the workers, the legitimate anger of the colleagues will be vented in strikes,” explains Ferenci. The Medical Association for Vienna fully supports the employees and has therefore also decided to provide legal support in the amount of three million euros. In addition, strike training courses will be offered to interested parties in the coming weeks and months.
