Medicine: Graduates denounce that they are not allowed to use their headquarters

The Faculty of Medical Sciences of the National University of La Plata added a new controversy in the last few hours.

The new authorities of the Graduate Center pointed out Dean Juan Basualdo Farjat for preventing access to the physical space that belongs to them. “As new authorities of the Graduate Center of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, despite having assumed two months ago, we have not been able to recover the physical place that our center has occupied in the last 20 years, on the ground floor of the faculty”, expressed in a statement released the day before.

“This space is locked, without anyone using it and from the Deanery we are denied access to it. Since then, we have been working from the internal patio of the Faculty, outdoors, with difficulties especially in this autumn/winter stage”, they argue.

On the other hand, they pointed out that “while this uncomfortable and overwhelming situation is resolved, we inform our representatives that they may contact the Graduate Center for any request or concern to our email or to the telephone numbers published in the section corresponding to graduates of the website of the Faculty.

The “University Convergence” group prevailed in the last elections of the faculty, which were part of the calendar of total renewal of representation in the governing bodies of the University. That performance was a blow in political terms for the sector that commands the deanery, headed by dean Juan Basualdo Farjat. The professor who was elected in 2018, this time was not supported by the councilors who represent the leadership of the radically oriented graduate center.

The re-election project was supported by the bench of professors, formed in elections with a single list (a level of blank vote was registered with no antecedents in sight in the faculty and the University). At the same time, the votes of the majority and minority student blocs were key.

Before sitting down to vote, they asked the dean for a signed commitment that indicated the return of face-to-face classes for around 33,000 students of that academic unit.

Among the deficits of this modality was the impossibility of contact with patients -in hospitals- for students in higher courses, a crucial tool for medical training.

Until these last hours, the virtuality table remains in force. It is part of the controversy around the overflow in the adequate relationship to academic training between the number of students, teachers and building infrastructure. The picture led to resignations of teachers in managerial functions.

Most of the faculty classrooms remain closed and along with that, according to the complaint from the graduate center, the office that is the headquarters of that organization in the building at 60 and 120.
