Medieval skeleton discovered with prosthetic hand – archaeology

Only upon closer examination did a late medieval skeleton discovered during work near the parish church in Freising, Bavaria, turn out to be an unusual find. Archaeologists discovered that parts of the fingers on the left hand were missing. Traces on the bones indicate an amputation. What was hardly noticeable at first glance: the dead man’s hand was in a construction that, upon closer examination, turned out to be a prosthetic hand with individually manufactured fingers.
