MedUX publishes groundbreaking report on 5G experiences in Europe

Madrid (ots/PRNewswire) MedUX, the leading Quality of Experience (QoE) company, today announced the release of its 5G QoE Benchmarking Report in Europe.

The report will be presented next Monday in the Spain Pavilion at Mobile World Congress and aims to provide key insights into the performance and end-user experience of 5G networks in major European cities.

According to the report, Lisbon, Madrid and Berlin emerged as the cities with the best 5G experience quality. In general, “the biggest city doesn’t necessarily mean the better 5G network or the best quality of experience. London and Rome are among the worst performers. The devil is in the detail, because not all 5G networks are created equal. Speed isn’t everything and the industry is trying to adapt to the needs of customers when using real services,” explained Rafael González, CMO at MedUX.

Lisbon was named the winner of the “Best QoE Award”. In the “Reliability Award”, the second most important category of the study, Berlin was recognized as the most consistent network performance, closely followed by Barcelona and Paris.

The report shows that the so-called non-standalone use (NSA) of 5G – where 5G complements a 4G network – has increased significantly in all cities, with the largest 5G coverage in Germany being recorded in Berlin with 96% .

In terms of speed, the fastest 5G download speed was also observed in Berlin, with live speeds of 1.5Gbps on the Deutsche Telekom network. This speed is about five times the typical download speed in Lisbon, which is the highest median among European cities at 330 Mbps.

The study also shows that Portugal leads in 5G gaming experience, with Lisbon having the best scores due to typical latency and jitter of under 44ms and 8ms respectively. Additionally, Lisbon was identified as the best data and OTT experience, while Barcelona was named the winner in streaming experience.

“The results are crucial for network operators and other industry stakeholders as they work to roll out 5G networks in their respective countries,” said Luis Molina, CEO of MedUX. “They provide valuable insights into the state of 5G networks in Europe , and we’re excited to share this information with the industry at Mobile World Congress 2023 to improve customer experiences and improve the overall quality and reliability of 5G networks.”

The report concludes that experience quality varies significantly across various deployment and configuration factors. This motivates network operators to remain competitive in the digital age and in an increasingly networked world.

Headquartered in Madrid, Spain, MedUX is present in over 25 countries in Europe, America, Africa and the Middle East and oversees over 80 operators worldwide.
