Olympic silver medalist Meerabai Chanu won the silver medal at the World Weightlifting Championships in Colombia. This historic achievement of Chanu surpassed Shihua who won gold in the Olympics. This is the second medal of the World Championships for Meerabai, who won gold in 2017 by lifting 194 kg (85 kg plus 109 kg).
Mirabai Chanu lifted 200 kg (87 kg in snatch, 113 kg in clean and jerk) and Shihua totaled 198 kg (89 kg in snatch, 109 kg in clean and jerk).
China’s Jiang Huihua lifted 206kg (93kg plus 113kg) to win gold. Indian weightlifter Mirabhai, who recently won the Commonwealth Games 2022 gold, started off slowly by lifting 85 kg in the snatch.
