Fernande Courtoy was born in Thuin on July 4, 1914, a few days before the outbreak of the First World War. In the 1930s, she continued her university studies. She obtained a license in pharmacy before getting married a few years later. “My husband was chief engineer in the coal mines. He told me he made a good enough living and that I didn’t need to work“, explains Fernande Courtoy.

Determined, the latter still became a pharmacist after the marriage of her three children, working in an establishment that she managed in the center of Charleroi. “At 65, I had to stop, but I continued to make replacements for several more years“, she explains.
