Meet the Team: Benuzeh, Geoffrion, Olson, and Sidoti

Case Western Reserve University track and field athletes continued their strong season at the Spark Adams Invitational, setting two new program records in field events on Saturday. The meet, hosted by Case Western Reserve, saw standout performances from multiple athletes across sprinting, jumping, and throwing disciplines.

Senior Troy Olson broke the CWRU men’s indoor high jump record with a leap of 6 feet 10.5 inches (2.10 meters), surpassing the previous mark set in 2019. His jump not only secured a first-place finish but also qualified him for the upcoming NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships.

First-year Anthony Sidoti also made history, clearing 15 feet 9 inches (4.80 meters) in the pole vault to establish a new CWRU freshman record. His performance earned him second place in the event and marked the highest vault by a first-year student in program history.

Sophomore Pierre-Andre Geoffrion contributed significantly to the team’s success, placing in the top three in both the long jump and triple jump. In the long jump, he recorded a distance of 22 feet 4 inches (6.81 meters), while his triple jump effort of 46 feet 3 inches (14.10 meters) placed him among the league leaders for the season.

The Spark Adams Invitational, held annually at the Adelbert Gymnasium track facility, serves as a key early-season benchmark for CWRU’s track and field squad. This year’s edition attracted over 200 athletes from more than 15 institutions across Ohio and neighboring states, including Allegheny College, Carnegie Mellon University, and Wittenberg University.

Head coach Lisa Rodriguez praised the team’s depth and consistency, noting that the record-breaking efforts reflect months of focused training and technical refinement. “Seeing Troy and Anthony push the limits of what’s possible in their events is incredibly rewarding,” Rodriguez said in a post-meet interview with the university athletics office. “It shows the culture we’re building—one where athletes believe they can achieve at the highest level.”

Olson’s high jump mark now ranks among the top 10 in the NCAA Division III indoor season nationally, according to preliminary performance lists published by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Sidoti’s vault, meanwhile, places him in the top 25 nationally for freshmen in the indoor pole vault.

The Spartans will next compete at the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Championships later this month, where they aim to build on this momentum and secure additional qualifying marks for the national championship.
