He Democratic Option Party officially announced that it will introduce Virginia Antares as a presidential candidate in the 2024 elections, after carrying out an internal consultation in which the candidate received the support of 97% of the voters, with a record of 449 delegates.
Antares is a policy of 38 years working as a planning and communication consultantin addition to being a political leader of the party Democratic Option.
“I have spoken on several occasions about the need to rebuild trust in politics, and the results of this consultation are a sign of the trust that is being placed in me as a person, in this collective project, and in everything we represent; I assume it with a great sense of humility, of honor, and promising you to put my heart, my soul, and give my best in this process.”Antares said after receiving the results.
The party explained that Virginia Antares Rodríguez has been an activist since adolescence, he has participated in the main citizen mobilizations in the country for the last 20 years. She graduated summa cum laude from Social Communication of the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM)with a Master’s degree completed with Merit in Development Policies and Environment from the University of Sussex (United Kingdom), thanks to the Chevening scholarship (2010-11).
A translation and adaptation of his master’s thesis was published by the Academy of Sciences of the Dominican Republic in 2012, under the title: “After the gold of Pueblo Viejo: a critical analysis of the largest Dominican mining project.”
She has been the manager of multiple citizen initiatives of a social and educational nature, such as Cerito y Cruz (2009), the digital newspaper El Grillo (2014), the Escuela Política (2018) and, more recently, Producciones Minervas (2020), a production house of women’s cinema, which is currently making the political documentary “Así Ganamos”. She has professional experience as a journalist, editor of educational books, university professor, consultant on sustainable development issues, as well as in strategic communication for civil society organizations at the national and international level.
