A body language expert has analyzed the famous Sussex interview with Oprah Winfrey. Judi James said Meghan Markle’s hand gesture seems to prove things have changed between her and Harry. This indeed shows new insight into their relationship with roles that have now been reversed.
You certainly know this infamous interview of the Sussexes at the microphone of the American host Oprah Winfrey. The one in which Meghan Markle said she was the victim of racism from the royal family. A body language specialist, Judi James, looked into it and analyzed the gestures of the Duke and Duchess. He delivered his findings in The Mirror.
When Prince Harry proposed to Meghan Markle, he knew he would have a lot to teach her. Becoming his wife meant a lot of things: now being called Duchess of Sussex, getting married into one of the most famous families in the world, but above all, having to face the rest of the British royal family.
The roles are reversed
Immediately, Prince Harry stood by Meghan Markle to support, guide and protect her. But today, things seem to have changed between them. According to Judi James, a subtle wave of the hand of Meghan Markle proves that the roles have been reversed.
In this famous interview with Oprah Winfrey, the couple stand side by side in lawn chairs as they recount their life within the royal family. Judi James told The Mirror what “Their hand gestures showed that Meghan seemed confident but Harry was not and needed his wife’s support.”
The body language expert explains: “I think when Meghan arrived in the UK, Harry saw himself as the overprotective husband who knew the press and public interest were going to be unleashed and wanted to protect her at all costs – even if she was coming off as a very confident woman but i think the tide has completely turned watching the oprah winfrey interview now she seems to have made harry a lot more vulnerable in the states with her and she seems to be playing the part more as a rescuer and protector with him.”
A posture that inspires confidence
Judi James highlights the position of their hands:“This hand gesture that you can see, he has his hand on the chair and she has placed her hand on it. It’s almost a motherly looking gesture, it’s good that it’s used for reassurance and let him feed off his confidence obviously she’s friends with Oprah she’s used to being in front of the cameras she’s an actress but for Harry it’s a whole new world he’s on judged and asked to play. And the interview gives the impression that he will tear his soul out on camera and talk to us regarding everything”explains the gesture expert.

The latter believes that Meghan Markle is sitting with a gesture that shows that she has confidence in her. “Meghan is just sitting there looking very reserved, very regal I would say, very elegant. She has the upside-down V under her armpit, which shows her confidence. When we feel like we’re being bombarded with difficult questions or feel uncomfortable, women in particular tend to belittle themselves, to tuck in their arms. But with Meghan, she has this image of confidence and self-control.”continues Judi James.
Harry doesn’t look reassured
For his part, Prince Harry seems to tell something quite different: that of a man who needs the support of his wife. “Harry, on the other hand, is a lot less sure of himself. He’s sitting diagonally and he looks a lot clumsier. He strikes a masculine pose, he has his hand between his legs. It’s called putting the fig leaf down is a very protective gesture. Here he looks a lot more guarded and a lot more uncomfortable and really needs that handshake he gets from Megan” she notes to conclude her remarks.
