NHK will broadcast a memorial program in memory of musician Ryuichi Sakamoto, who passed away on March 28. On BS Premium, “100 years interview Ryuichi Sakamoto” will be broadcast from 22:00 on April 8, and “Tsunami Piano-Ryuichi Sakamoto and Tohoku’s 7 years” will be broadcast from 23:30 on the same day.

The 100-year interview was first broadcast on April 10, 2008. What kind of background does Ryuichi Sakamoto’s music come from? Ryuichi Sakamoto talks about himself, including his life since childhood, how he got involved in film music, and his thoughts on music.

Tsunami Piano will be broadcast for the first time on March 10, 2018. Mr. Sakamoto encountered a broken piano that was swept away in the Great East Japan Earthquake. The sound remained in my heart, and I played the piano as a device to convey the memory of the earthquake. We followed Sakamoto’s footsteps with the people involved in the piano, including those involved in the high school that owned the piano.

Also, from 1:32 on April 10th (midnight on April 9th), Ryuichi Sakamoto will be a lecturer and re-broadcast on E-tele “Scola Ryuichi Sakamoto Music School”, which will explain the charm of music with his own interpretation. From the series that aired from 2010 to 2014, we invited Haruomi Hosono and Yukihiro Takahashi as guest lecturers for an encore broadcast of “Drums & Bass”.
