Men can also get breast cancer

While their breasts are less developed, men have identical breast tissue to women.

First of all, it is important to know how to detect a possibility of breast cancer in a man. The most frequent sign of breast cancer in men is a painless mass most often located near the nipple or below, but other signs should alert such as a discharge or bleeding from the nipple; crusting of the nipple; a nipple that suddenly points inward (inverted nipple); redness; breast pain or swelling; mass in the armpit (axillary hollow) or an open lesion (ulcer) on the skin of the breast that does not heal.

1% of breast cancers are male

Today (4 February) is ‘World Cancer Day’ and of the 60,000 people affected each year in France by breast cancer, 1% is male. Concern: not knowing that they can be struck by breast cancer, most men will consult a specialist later than women.

They think of an inflammation that will resolve itself

Radiation oncologist at the Hartmann Institute of Radiotherapy, Doctor Ilan Darmon adds on 20 minutes : “Men are often diagnosed at a more advanced stage of the disease; A beginner tumor can easily go unnoticed in a woman because of her breast volume, less so in a man. Men feeling a lump in their chest think they must have kicked themselves or think inflammation will go away on its own“.

Men survive breast cancer less than women

While nine out of ten women survive after five years, this figure drops to eight among their male counterparts.
