TWO Indonesian men’s doubles, Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Bagas Maulana were knocked out of the 2024 French Open tournament.

Leo/Daniel was defeated by Taiwan’s Lu Ching Yao/Yang Po Han in straight games with scores of 14-21 and 15-21.

Due to this defeat, Men’s Doubles Coach, Aryono, said that it was still homework for Leo/Daniel to be able to beat the Taiwanese pair.

“I have discussed it with Leo/Daniel and they are also curious about why they haven’t been able to penetrate,” said Aryono in his statement.

In fact, a number of methods have been attempted in preparation for facing Lu/Yang. Finally, for the record, Aryono said that Leo/Daniel had to play more patiently and calmly.

“You have to be calmer, more patient and the accuracy of your shots has to be even more accurate. Your opponent has strengths in speed and power, indeed in these field conditions they can be tougher,” said Aryono.

Meanwhile, for the pair Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Bagas Maulana, Aryono said they could not escape pressure from their opponents. So, Bagas/Fikri played too slowly. Bagas/Fikri lost to Taiwanese pair Lee Jhe Huei/Yang Po Hsuan in two straight games 11-21 17-21.

The conditions under pressure experienced by Bagas/Fikri, continued Aryono, were made worse by the condition of their opponents who appeared confident after successfully becoming champions at the German Open last week.

“In the second game we tried to change the pattern and it was correct but the final solution was not good, several times when there should have been a chance to get points, we instead made our own mistakes,” said Aryono.

Due to the poor results of the two men’s doubles pairs, Aryono also wanted them to immediately focus on the next tournament, namely the All England.

“Next week there is the All England, so I advise you not to give up, focus again through preparation and practice,” he added. (Ndf/Z-7)
