Arts corporation Meow Wolf today announced it will launch a new 1,200-square-foot gathering space with a focus on art access on Monday, May 1 in honor late co-founder Matt King, who died last July.
Chief of Staff and Executive Director of the Meow Wolf Foundation Julie Heinrich said in the announcement the room provides a place inside the Santa Fe flagship location that will allow users to explore, “how creativity encourages innovative thinking, which is essential for job growth and development—including STEAM jobs.”
The space designated for Rainbow Rainbow was formerly inhabited by DIY organization, MAKE Santa Fewhich vacated Meow Wolf in 2020 but still maintains a presence at 2879 All Trades Road. Rainbow Rainbow features a vibrant mural from Albuquerque artist Caroline Liu with 3D elements such as a 200-foot foam tongue—with more art to come.
The goal, Meow Wolf Sales & Marketing Manager Kate Daley tells SFR, “is to have free ‘open space time’ with access to art supplies daily.”
“We will also offer multiple free and paid workshops weekly,” she continues, “with a robust slate coming in August.”
Among those already scheduled to host events in the coming months are Reunity Resources Farm, Life Link and the Santa Fe Human Rights Alliance. Daley notes that participants will not be required to purchase a ticket to Meow Wolf’s House of Eternal Return to attend these events, and that Rainbow Rainbow will house other happenings as time goes by on a first-come, first-served basis.
The statement also notes that Rainbow Rainbow is dedicated to Meow Wolf co-founder King who was, it reads, “a passionate camp counselor and an inspiring mentor to kids who believed in the importance of making space for creative expression.”
Daley tells SFR the new space will serve all ages, and work on initiatives and organizations that support arts in equity, education and environment.
“With that said,” she explains, “there will be programming for kids, including Make and Believe Time—story and imagination time for toddlers, which launches in May. Other offerings for elementary and high school-aged kids will be announced.”
Meow Wolf’s Santa Fe location recently hit its seventh year of operations. In addition to its New Mexico location, the growing company has opened other perma-installations in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Denver, Colorado, with new locations slated to open in Houston and Grapevine, Texas, this summer.
