MERANO. The tumultuous arrest that took place late last Thursday evening – as anticipated by South Tyrol in the March 25 edition – has more precise outlines.
Already expelled from the national territory.
The episode dates back to last week. The soldiers of the operational and mobile radio unit of the Carabinieri Company of Merano, at the end of an articulated and fruitful investigation activity, conducted under the direction of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Court of Bolzano, identified and arrested a fugitive of Albanian nationality who had resided in the Burgraviato until 2015 – the year in which he was expelled from the national territory – at the same time denouncing his brother because he was clandestinely hosting him at his own home.
The arrest.
The arrest did not go unnoticed, several carabinieri took part in the operation. Those who reside in or around the building witnessed the blitz.
Crimes against the person and against property.
The action is the epilogue, at least the current one, of an in-depth investigation by the soldiers of the Arma which made it possible to bring to justice a fugitive with multiple offenders who was responsible for various crimes against the person and property, so much so that he was sentenced in a definitively to serve eight and a half years in prison. Specifically, the subject was known in the Burgraviato for his extreme ability to perpetrate home burglaries. Since 2015, the year of his first conviction and his expulsion, he had lost track of himself.
The work and stubbornness of the soldiers of the Carabinieri Company of Merano, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Bolzano, made it possible to locate the subject in a house in Merano, in via Piave, where the brother who was hosting him, also reported for the disputed crime of aiding and abetting.
The escape attempt.
The operation, carried out in the middle of the night, made it possible to bring to justice the fugitive who, at the sight of the soldiers of the Arma, had also tried to escape from the balcony, but to no avail given the overwhelming numerical superiority of the soldiers and the extreme care in their dislocation.
The two men, Albanian citizens, were taken to the carabinieri company in via Petrarca for the usual checks, at the end of which, once the required formalities had been completed, one of them was arrested and associated with the Bolzano prison, the other reported in a state of freedom.
