Mercato: French international Jonathan Ikoné joins Fiorentina

A prodigious player bids adieu to Ligue 1. Following weeks of speculation, Lille officially announced Jonathan Ikoné’s move to Fiorentina on Friday morning. The club confirmed a complete agreement with the Serie A team for Ikoné’s transfer. The French national team member will permanently join Fiorentina on January 3rd, 2022, the commencement of the Italian transfer window. He’s been granted early permission to travel to Italy to participate in Fiorentina’s pre-season training, as stated in a statement from the French champions on their website.

Ikoné, a product of PSG’s youth academy, transferred to Lille at 19, flourishing under manager Christophe Galtier. His impressive performances earned him four caps and a goal for the French national team under Didier Deschamps. While the transfer fee remains undisclosed, reports suggest a figure around €15 million. Paris Saint-Germain, retaining a sell-on clause from his initial sale, stands to gain a substantial sum.

In a farewell message, the club acknowledged Ikoné’s upcoming adventure in Serie A, where he will reunite with former teammates Mike Maignan and Fodé Ballo-Touré. LOSC expressed gratitude for his contributions over three and a half seasons and wished him continued success in his career.
