The Mercedes-AMG CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung has been officially unveiled as the second ultra-exclusive model from Mercedes-Benz’s Mythos brand. Limited to just 30 units globally, this track-focused super coupe packs a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine pushing 637 horsepower and 850 Nm of torque, all routed to a rear-wheel-drive architecture.
Engineering the Mythos: Under the Hood of the CLE 646
Developed under the ultra-luxury Mythos umbrella that Mercedes-Benz launched in 2022, the AMG CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung builds directly upon the foundation of the standard Mercedes-AMG CLE 53. But calling this a mere variant undersells the extensive powertrain and aerodynamic overhaul engineered by Affalterbach. At the core of the machine sits a hand-built 4.0-liter biturbo V8, pumping out a ferocious 637 horsepower (reported as 627 horsepower in some regional distributions) and 850 Nm of torque. According to reports from Motor1 Turkey and Webtekno, power management is handled by a nine-speed AMG Speedshift transmission, directing every ounce of torque exclusively to the rear axle.
To maximize acoustic feedback and thermal efficiency, the exhaust system was co-developed with Akrapovič. Meanwhile, an optimized launch control system designed specifically for the rear-wheel-drive layout allows the car to clear 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. Momentum builds rapidly from there: 0 to 200 km/h takes 11.4 seconds, 300 km/h is breached in 36.8 seconds, and the vehicle tops out at a staggering 310 km/h.
Shedding Mass: The Carbon-Fiber Diet
Raw power means nothing without aggressive weight management. Engineers widened the widebody kit by 6.1 centimeters compared to the stock CLE 53 to house stickier track rubber and widen the track. To offset the heavy V8 architecture, Mercedes-AMG went on a ruthless weight-saving campaign. Carbon fiber was deployed extensively across the front grille, fenders, side skirts, hood, roof, and rear bumper. These composite upgrades shaved a massive 170 kilograms off the vehicle, bringing the dry weight down to 1,895 kilograms.
The cabin strips away standard creature comforts to favor track utility. According to automotive reports, the rear seats, acoustic dampening materials, and various driver-assistance systems were entirely deleted. The sound system was heavily simplified, and standard seating gave way to ultra-lightweight racing bucket seats matched with carbon fiber door panels. Even the rear side windows and rear windshield were swapped out for polycarbonate variants to squeeze out every possible gram of weight savings.
Market Availability and Sold-Out Status
Exclusivity dictates that very few will ever pilot this machine on public tarmac. German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz capped production at precisely 30 units worldwide.
