Abu Dhabi – (dpa):

Mercedes, the automobile manufacturer, will continue to supply engines to the McLaren team, competing in the Formula 1 world championship, until 2030 after announcing the extension of cooperation between them.

British news agency PA Media reported that the McLaren team used Mercedes engines for the last three seasons, and the partnership between them will continue in order to pass together the new rules for renewing the power unit that will apply starting in 2026.

McLaren President Zak Brown said: “Mercedes has been a wonderful and reliable partner for the McLaren Formula 1 team.”

He added: “The extension demonstrates the confidence of shareholders in our team and the larger team in Mercedes engines, and the direction we are heading with them in the new era of new regulations that will be implemented.”

He added: “We achieved success together in the past three seasons and when Mercedes previously supplied the team, so we look forward to the success that will come as we continue our journey to constantly compete for the front of the starting grid.”

Following engine supply deals with Honda and Renault, the partnership with Mercedes pushed the McLaren team to the front of the grid, where Daniel Ricciardo achieved his first victory in nine years, at the Italian Grand Prix in 2021.

Lando Norris was able to climb the podium five times in the last seven races before the season’s final race in Abu Dhabi.

McLaren last won the World Championship title in 2008, and Mercedes supplied the team with engines, when Lewis Hamilton won his first title in Brazil.
