With the EQS sedan, Mercedes set new standards in the luxury class. The SUV version tops that again – especially in terms of weight.
2810 kilograms. The all-wheel drive version of the EQS 450 4Matic SUV weighs that much. That’s more than three times what a Golf 1 weighed back then. Of course you can’t compare these two cars in any way. The battery pack alone with a net output of 108.4 kWh, which is installed in the floor of the Über-Benz, weighs 700 kilograms, almost as much as the compact classic from 1974. However, the all-electric Mercedes has a standard range of over 600 km Kilometers also a third further than the Golf with a tank filling.
But enough with the far-fetched comparisons. While the EQS sedan set new standards in terms of efficiency and aerodynamics when it was presented in the luxury class, the task of the SUV variant is completely different. Luxury, driving comfort and technical brilliance should attract the financially strong clientele. If you have the wherewithal, you get a real Mercedes with the SUV, which is not only absolutely state of the art in terms of drive and infotainment. With five seats or optionally up to 2100 liters of luggage space, the “Big Benz” is a real alternative for families with average space requirements. It goes without saying that climate protection is not at the top of the specification given this opulence. Nevertheless, the silent calmness with which the 2.8-ton chunk roams around makes a lasting impression. At least here this adjective fits perfectly.
