Exclusive Interview: Hideo Kojima on Metal gear Solid Delta: snake Eater
With the release of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater just around the corner, we at archyde had the pleasure of sitting down with legendary game creator, Hideo Kojima, to discuss this highly anticipated reimagining of his critically acclaimed 2004 masterpiece. Kojima-san graciously took time out of his busy schedule to share his thoughts on the upcoming title and his hopes for both veteran players and newcomers.
Kojima-san, it’s an honor. Let’s dive right in. What drove you to undertake this ambitious remake of Metal Gear Solid 3?
“Thank you. It’s a pleasure to be here. I’ve always felt that Metal Gear Solid 3 was a unique entry in the series, a standout even among its iconic predecessors. With advancements in technology and visual storytelling, I wanted to bring this beloved chapter to a new generation, preserving its core essence while providing an enhanced, engaging experience for both longtime fans and newcomers.”
You’ve said that this isn’t merely a high-definition remaster, but a full-fledged remake. Can you elaborate on the gameplay changes and improvements we can expect?
“Absolutely. While the core gameplay remains true to the original, we’ve made improvements across the board, especially in the graphics and sound design. The game runs at a smooth 60 frames per second, offering dynamic shadows, global illumination, and improved textures. As for sound, we’ve re-recorded the entire soundtrack and voice cast to provide a more immersive experience. But beyond visuals and audio, we’ve also taken the prospect to refine some of the mechanics, delivering a modern take on this classic stealth action.”
some fans may be concerned about changes to the beloved original. How do you reassure them that their trust isn’t misplaced?
“I understand their concern, but I want to assure them that the spirit of Metal Gear Solid 3 remains intact. this isn’t a case of ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.’ Instead, we’re building on the original’s formula, preserving what made it great while refining and modernizing where necessary.Fans will still find the stealth gameplay, engaging storytelling, and compelling characters that have always defined the series. It’s an evolution, not a reinvention.”
“Of course. We want to ensure the best possible experience for PC players. The minimum specs, powered by an i5-8600 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600, 16GB RAM, and an RTX 2060 Super, will deliver a solid 1080p experience at 60fps. For those seeding for the top-tier experience, the recommended specs, featuring an i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, 16GB RAM, and an RTX 3080, will provide a stunning 4K experience with enhanced visual fidelity. An SSD is also recommended for faster load times and smoother gameplay.”
Lastly, what do you hope players will take away from their time with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater?
“I hope they appreciate the amount of love and care we’ve poured into this project. I want them to feel that familiar, nostalgic pang of emotion as they step back into the shoes of Naked Snake, while also discovering new depths and details they may have missed the first time around. More than anything, I hope this remake reintroduces old fans to the world of Metal Gear and welcomes newcomers to understand why this series has meant so much to so many people over the years.”
Thank you, Kojima-san, for your time and your continued dedication to the Metal Gear series. We can’t wait to dive back into Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater on August 28.
