Trade unions demand a fair share of success and reiterate the demand for 11.6 percent more wages and salaries

Vienna (OTS) The collective bargaining negotiations for the approximately 200,000 employees in the metal industry continued on October 2nd. The first round of negotiations between the PRO-GE and GPA unions and the Trade Association of the Metal Technology Industry (FMTI) was interrupted after seven hours without any result.

“There was no reluctance on the part of companies to distribute profits. Our demand therefore remains 11.6 percent. The employees have more than earned inflation compensation and a fair share of the industry’s economic success,” say the chief negotiator for the employees’ side, Reinhold Binder (PRO-GE) and Karl Dürtscher (GPA).

The unions once again point to the high real wage losses in the past few months: “The inflation burden is still enormous. Employees now need a noticeable and, above all, sustainable increase so that their lives remain affordable,” emphasize Binder and Dürtscher. The second round of negotiations with the FMTI will take place on October 9th at 11 a.m.
