MEXICO CITY (AP) — The railway company Ferromex, one of the largest in Mexico, announced on Tuesday the suspension of the operations of its freight trains due to the massive agglomeration of migrants who are using this transport to move towards the northern border in his way to the United States.

The company said in a statement that it temporarily paralyzed the operations of 60 trains, which covered the routes to northern Mexico, due to the “severe risk” that the use of freight trains for transportation represents for migrants.

According to the company’s report, some 3,000 migrants would be concentrated in the operations yards of the towns of Torreón, Irapuato, San Francisco de los Romo and on the route between Chihuahua and Ciudad Juárez.

Ferromex indicated that the lifting of the measure will depend on the actions decided by the authorities at different levels.
